We caught up with Houston-based Creative Educator and Illustrator, Kimmiski Adams on what she’s been up to as of late and how she’s managing during these times.
How are you? Where are you at the moment?
I'm good. Just trying to create in this down time. I am currently at home in Houston Texas!
What's been keeping you busy? Any new projects in development?
Art and Lesson planning has been keeping me busy. I'm writing the curriculum for my new course next year—Digital Media for all high school students! As well as a collaboration with CNK Daily and Nike By You on three new Air Max 1 colorways, which were just released.
I feel like as creatives we’re constantly making iterations even when initially we thought the project was done. How do you know when a project is complete?
You're right. Most of the time I have to stop and tell myself that it will be ugly if I keep correcting it. For me I have to almost bully myself to finish and stop working on it.
I know a lot of people's inspiration and ideas may stem from being outside. Since we’ve been in quarantine for a couple of months now, where are you finding inspiration?
I think this is where my introvert comes in. I gain inspiration from music and sitting quietly. I've also gained inspiration from watching people being forced to create inside. The amount of content that's been created during this time has been amazing. Seeing other people finally have time to get creative has been super inspiring for me.
Any book recommendations?
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck and Warhol on Basquiat are two great reads!
